The Latest SM4 Newsletter

The topic for this issue may seem understated: "Sustainability and Incremental Improvement." But in this issue you will find clear evidence that a vibrant safety program can improve all business functions. And that gets my attention. At Global Aerospace we live in a culture of safety, and we make that culture work for us. We keep safety visible by encouraging dialogue and debate, and we broadcast our commitment by telling our safety story at every opportunity. We'd like you to do the same.

Don Chupp of Fireside Partners teaches us to optimize our potential for an appropriate emergency response and he reminds us of the lessons to be learned from recent events. Dr. Dan Boedigheimer of Convergent Performance outlines the three primary reasons for procedural drift using aviation examples - but his lessons go well beyond airplanes, pilots and mechanics. You can find his article, Minding the Gap

Dr. Dana Siewert, architect and leader of the Aviation Safety Department at the University of North Dakota, provides us with an inside view of one of the world's largest and most sophisticated general aviation flight training programs. Dr. Siewert's writing contains some solid advice for those who might be evaluating the quality of a flight training program. I always look forward to the "From Where I Sit" article and this one is great.

Modern business management emphasizes the importance of measurement. You need simple and clear ways to measure the success of your Safety Program; learn to use these concepts in a broader business model by reading Don Baldwin's article.

In partnership with leading experts in human factors, safety management, emergency response and family assistance, the SM4 program will provide Global Aerospace's United States based General Aviation customers with access to a coordinated series of innovative training seminars, electronic newsletters from nationally recognized safety experts, an interactive website monitored by key safety experts, and an impressive suite of direct on-site services. SM4 is the first initiative that combines all four critical Safety Management components: Planning, Prevention, Response, and Recovery into one integrated program that is designed to assist customers while ensuring regulatory requirements are met. The program, just one in a series of new customer oriented initiatives being released by Global Aerospace, will synergize the world's leading aerospace insurer with its General Aviation customers. This sentiment is resounded by Jeff Bruno, Executive Vice-President of General Aviation, who states, "General Aviation customers want insurance partners who support front-end safety and systems initiatives. We understand the value of having our customers evaluate and pro-actively manage their risk. Therefore, the benefits of a program like SM4 are mutually aligned. The real value of SM4 however lies in its ability to continuously provide real time, real world applications to our customers. We are committed to continuously improving the program and to ensuring that the system will provide something for everyone for years to come."
